Intentions and Why They’re Great Guidelines for What’s Good For Ya

Long title, huh? Your intentions don’t have to be!

Here’s my list from the beginning of this summer:

-I intend to disconnect from social media and reconnect with God.

-I intend to enjoy the stars and sunsets more.

-I intend to go to church frequently.

-I intend to run more.

-I intend to create healthy habits in prayer, exercise and diet.

-I intend to love myself, gain confidence and love others.

-I intend to live a life I’m proud of.

-I intend to rid my life of unnecessary things.

Here’s why I like intentions:

It’s so easy to set goals and not meet them or break them I think. Think New Year’s resolutions... in March or April...

Now think about the purpose behind your goals, think about your desires, think about your motives and think about being kind to yourself. This is where intent starts to kick in...

I intended to disconnect this summer, to be healthy and get closer to Jesus. However, if I checked Snapchat once a month, ate a cheeseburger or missed a church service I wasn’t mad at myself. I just decided to try harder next time!

I think sometimes the goals we set for ourselves are necessary, but sometimes they can be too rigid. Almost like failing is just a broken goal that can never be repaired, but must be replaced.

Intentions contain purpose that can't be broken.

Intentions, to me, are where our passions meet our actions.

So when I say I am passionate about loving Jesus, then I can follow through with actions that show that, and at the end of the day my intention of loving Him harder was met. Or maybe your intention is to be happy... you're genuinely passionate about wanting to be happy... well then I bet your actions will be ones that are positive and purposeful!

I think people who live each day with intent are winning! Unlike most of us going from one thing to the next mindlessly, people with intention are focused and their intentions guide them to make the most of that day.

What are your intentions?

An intention is an aim, a plan.

Intentions are like the walk you set out to follow instead of a goal-like destination you can’t wait to get to.

I challenge you to write out 5 intentions for this week or this month—comment them or message them to me—that would make you stronger on your walk!
